The aim of the centre is to provide a framework in support of a rich interaction between artists, engineers and scientists, university external and internal organisations and individuals, in order to collaborate on activities within music technology. To reflect within this area the mission of the university aiming as a research-led centre of excellence with the following aims:
- to undertake fundamental, strategic and applied research;
- to provide education through the development of learning in a research environment;
- to sustain and add value to the community at large and to the national economy.

New for 2009/10: a new Masters course, SPECTRUM, is launched by the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering. Signal Processing, Electronic and Computer Techniques for Researching and Understanding Music is run in collaboration with our classical performer collaborators, and applies Engineering and Computer Science to empirical performance studies.
